News
July 2, 2017

The first part of the year has just sped past unbelievable fast.  A lot has happened in the first five months!  Congratulations to everyone that have performed well at the races so far this year.  May you all meet your goals for the remainder of the year.

Time Trial - Just a reminder that we are running from the Kabega Park Primary school in Brabant Avenue every Tuesday at 17h30.  There is a 4km, 6km and 8km route and everyone is welcome.  The route is cleary marked and has been measured accurately.  The turnout so far this year has been good, keep it up.  Those that are running it regularly definitely notices an improvement in their running times!

Licencing and registration - Most of our members are already licenced for 2017.  New members are reminded to register on www.asa.saclubs.co.za and www.nedbankrunningclub.co.za.  We have a good number of new members this year!  Welcome and please do not hesitate to ask any of the club committee members for advise!

Websites - Members that are already registered must please update their details if anything has changed.  These websites are used to send you news items and updates.  The results of the races are also on the Nedbank Running club website.

Diva Run - The annual Diva Run will be held on the 19th of August from KINGS BEACH!.  Note that this is not a public holiday this year.  We will be hosting this event with Elite AC and Charlo RR.  We need more than 30 members to help as marshalls and registration staff.  You will be contacted by Toegeda for registration and other duties, and by Karal Steyn for marshal duties.  Please volunteer for this important task, we need your help.  It will also be great if all the men can volunteer so that our ladies can participate on the day!

Two Oceans Ultra and Half marathon - We had a huge number of athletes that participated in Cape Town this year!.   The nation wide bus strike gave us a few extra grey hairs as most of the athletes that were booked would have been stranded.  Thank you do Deon, Darryl and Willie for helping us out with last minute arrangements.  Well done to each and every one of you!  Thank you once again to Nedbank for organizing the Marquee tent at the finish area.  It was really great to be able to sit there, have something to eat and drink and cheer on the athletes finishing!

We are also thinking of our committee member Dianne Hartzenberg, who had a bad reaction to some medication the morning after the race and ended up going to hospital before leaving Cape Town.  It ended up being a very severe medical emergency and Dianne spent over a week in ICU in PE.  She is currently housebound for another month and it is uncertain whether she will be running again.  We are very grateful for her recovery so far, and look forward to seeing her again soon!

Clothing - We have received vests and shorts, as well as some Tracksuits.  Next order will be placed in August.  The costs of some of the clothing has gone up, please check the Nedbank Running club website for prices.

AGM and Prize Giving - Thank you to everyone that attended our AGM and prize giving.  We are very pleased with the turnout.  Congratulations to everyone that won prizes.  There are however a number of uncollected certificates, please check at the Time Trials on Tuesdays if you think there may be one for you!

Athlete of the Month - Congratulations to our first athlete of the month winners.  January winner was Louis van Eyk and February winner was Genevieve Laycock.  Congratulations to our March winner, the highest points scored at a time trial is Cliffie Hicken with 252.4 points.  The April winner, for being the closest finisher to his/her predicted Two Oceans time is Dewald van Vuuren.

Nelson Mandela Bay SA 21.1km 24 June - The annual NMB SA21.1km will be held on the 24th of June!.  Congratulations to the following athletes that were selected for the EP Team:  George Ntshiliza, Anele Maliza, Rodney Prins, Melikhaya Kepe, Christopher Mabengeza, Clifford Hicken, Cilliers Swart, Tamsanqa Jusayi, Anele Voorman, Ntombesintu Mfunzi, Davera Magson, Grizelda Pietersen, Toegeda Vyver, Margie Saunders and Ronelle Steyn.

Congratulatons to our first time team members, Clifford Hicken, Anele Voorman and Toegeda Vyver!  Well done on your selection and good luck with your preparation!

Comrades - Comrades is just one week away and I am sure the nerves are taking over now!  Training time is over now, just relax this week and enjoy the experience.  Jan and I will be along the way to support you!

New arrival!  - Talking about Comrades weekend, club members Camarin and Louis will be welcoming their daughter into the world on Friday!  We trust that everything will go well with the delivery and may she bring you all an abundance of joy!

Club statistics and competitions - The statistics for the club and the various competitions are being kept updated on a weekly basis by Andre Pienaar.  He is doing a great job for us.  I can tell you that the competition is very close.  For Sportsperson of the year, the first four ladies are currently tied with 33 points, with the 10th person on 23 points.  The top six men are seperated by 4 points.  The award for the most improved is also less than one minute difference.

Thank you again for your support to the club!  Enjoy your running and good luck with all the races!
