FOUR NRC RUNNERS PART OF SA’S SUCCESS AT WORLD 100KM CHAMPS
September 12, 2018

Four athletes from the Nedbank Running Club (NRC) were part of the team that flew the South African flag high at the IAU World 100km Championships in Sveti Martin na Muri, Croatia. Best Ngwenya, Claude Moshiywa, Fikile Mbuthuma and Deanne Horn, all NRC runners, gave it their best as they competed against the world’s elite.

Ngwenya managed a 16th overall position, and in doing so helped the South African men’s team win the silver medal in the team

contest. In the women’s race Mbuthuma crossed the line in 14th position overall, while finishing 4th in her age category (35-39). In doing so she helped the SA women’s team earn a silver medal in the women’s team contest.

Another great performance the past week came from Comrades gold medalist Gerda Steyn who is currently back on South African soil after her excellent 10km PB in the UK recently. Steyn competed at the Fred Morrison Half Marathon in Germiston where she finished 1st lady overall.
