CLEAN SWEEP FOR NRC AT NUMEROUS RACES COUNTRYWIDE
February 28, 2018

The Green Dream Team did it again – a clean sweep at some of the biggest and most competitive races countrywide.
The crème of the crops were out in full swing at two of the most well known races this past weekend: the 45th Deloitte Pretoria Marathon as well as the Township Marathon. At the Deloitte Pretoria Marathon it was once again the Green Dream Team ladies who showed their competition why they are rated as the best. Former Comrades Champion Charné Bosman did it again when she broke the tape in another marathon win in a time of 2:56:46. The win was a bonus after a high mileage week, said Bosman, who added that the marathon was great preparation for the Comrades Marathon. Bosman won the BestMed Tuks Marathon the week before.

Teammate Irvette van Zyl who has been winning numerous races the last couple of months despite being pregnant, took another win when she crossed the line of the half marathon in a time of 79:29. She was followed home by rising NRC star Gerda Steyn, who finished second in a time of 82:53.

The veteran men made a clean sweep in the half marathon when Peter Medupe (73:41), Phillemon Phakwayo (73:50) and Enoch Skosana (76:12) took all three podium positons.

Another clean sweep followed at the Township Marathon where Namakoe Knhasi (29:57), David Manja (30:03) and Ntsindiso Mphakathi (30:04) finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 10km event. Team mates Siviwe Nkombi finished 2nd in the marathon (2:26), Phillimon Mathipa 2nd in the half marathon (1:09:31) and Andronica Mokgotla 2nd lady in the half marathon (1:30:20). A special mention goes to upcoming Junior Kutlwisiso Sidinile who finished first Junior in a time of 32:04. The NRC teams took a total of four team prizes at this event.

Last mention goes to the Nedbank Running Club track speedsters who flew the NRC flag high with more than 11 podium positions at the respective Track and Field Youth, Junior and Senior Champs in the last week.
Great results all around from a team who seems to be getting stronger and stronger each week.
