Nedbank Running Club Wins ASA Marathon Champs & Dominates Peninsula Podium

The Athletics South Africa (ASA) Marathon Championship was held in conjunction with the Balwin Sport Peninsula Marathon for the first time in the event’s 57-year history. This prestigious race, known for its scenic but challenging point-to-point route, saw nearly 6,000 runners toe the line in Green Point, Cape Town. The flat course, coupled with extremely windy conditions, took athletes across the Cape Peninsula, concluding 42.2 km later at the Simon’s Town Naval Base Sports Ground.

Women’s 42 km – Challenor & Laubscher Dominate Overall, Greyling Takes ASA Marathon Title

Nedbank’s Jenna Challenor ran a phenomenal race, finishing as the first woman in 2:51:24, followed closely by her clubmate Deanne Laubscher in 2:53:51. However, as both were not competing in provincial colours, they were ineligible for the ASA Marathon Championship title. Western Province’s Landie Greyling (renowned for her trail running achievements) took the ASA Marathon Championship title, crossing the line in 2:55:01, placing third overall.

Men’s 42 km – Strong Performances from Nedbank Athletes

Nedbank Running Club male athletes delivered impressive performances, particularly in the ASA Marathon Championships. Sinethemba Ntshangase, running in his KwaZulu-Natal provincial kit, secured a podium finish with 2nd place in 2:20:25. Other Nedbank athletes in the

This year’s event saw an increase in participation, with the marathon attracting 3,108 finishers (up from 2,548 in 2024) and the half marathon hosting 2,867 finishers (up from 2,707 last year).

The SA Marathon Championship participation also grew, with 92 men and 44 women finishing the race, compared to 105 total last year.

Nedbank Running Club athletes once again showcased their talent on one of South Africa’s biggest road-running stages. Whether in elite competition or club representation, the depth of talent within the team was on full display. Congratulations to all the runners who took part, and we look forward to seeing even stronger performances in future championships!

 

Nedbank Running Club Shines Across Multiple Events

The Nedbank Running Club had an impressive past two weekends, securing top positions across various races. From Johannesburg to the Limpopo province, Nedbank Running Club once again showed its depth of talent. Here’s a recap of how the Nedbank Running Club performed across the country in some of the races this last two weekends.

Assegaai Half Marathon:

- Woman's race: Rika Rossouw 1st overall

Kazungula Bridge Marathon in Botswana:

- Men's Race: Ngonidzashe Ncube in 3rd place

DanLuyt 15km in the Western Province:

Woman's Race: Anel Terblanche finished in 1st with Elme in 3rd overall

Balwin Sport Pretoria Marathon:

Men's Race: Reuben Mosiane took the win in 2:26:45 with Edward Mothibe in 3rd place in a time of 2:29:59

Pirates 21km, taking place in Johannesburg:

In challenging conditions with rain falling the entire race, club runners still managed to give top Performances

- Women’s race: Adele Broodryk finished in 4th place with a time of 1:31:33.
- Men’s race: Onalenna Khonkhobe took 4th place in 1:08:57, followed closely by Joel Mmone in 5th (1:09:37) and Tiiseto Mokhoma in 6th (1:09:58).

Zabalaza Marathon, taking place in KwaZulu-Natal:

- 10km Open: Mziwenkosi Mjaja secured 2nd place with a time of 32:11.

CDM 4-in-1 Marathon taking place in Limpopo:

- 10km Men: Isaac Moshiwa claimed 2nd place with a time of 32:29.
- 21.1km Men: Philemon Koskey took the top spot in an unofficial time of 1:06:00.
- 21.1km Women: Monique finished in 4th place with a time of 1:36.
- 42.2km Women: Slindile Chili dominated the marathon, finishing 1st in 3:17:00.
- 42.2km Men: Sfiso secured 3rd place, while Hanner claimed 3rd place with a time of 3:36. Julius Kiplagat Korir placed 3rd in the 40+ age category.

Sasol Secunda Marathon Races:

- 21km Women: Keneilwe Sesing took 1st place in 1:30:00, with Bianca Snell close behind in 2nd place (1:31:59).
- 10km Women: Rika Rossouw finished in 1st place.
