Cross Country – Chairperson Beaulah Valentin

We had a phenomenally successful 2024 in Cross Country. Athletics Vaal triangle hosted the ASA championships for the 1st time in the Vaal Triangle and according to feedback from ASA it was a success.

Nedbank Running Club obtained 14 podium positions at the AVT championships (8 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals). Athletes from Nedbank Running Club were involved in 4 podium positions, 2 individual and 2 team medals, at the ASA championships. We obtained 2 individual Silver medals as well as 1 Silver and 1 Bronze team medal

We are looking forward to the new season and you will be updated with necessary information.

Road Running – Chairperson Joggie van der Sandt

We had a lively season of Road Running and new athletes to the club made the big difference from previous years. Numerous athletes obtained podium positions and it was from Junior level to the Grand Masters where we obtained these positions.

We obtained 1 Silver medal at the 2024 edition of the Comrades marathon and some of our members just missed out on breaking the 7:30 hours for a Silver medal. One of our members Coenie Herbst completed his 30th Comrades marathon in 2024 in the colors of  Nedbank Running Club, something to be immensely proud of. I am sure that in 2025 we are going to return home with at least 4 Silver medals.

Nedbank athletes represented Athletics Vaal Triangle at all ASA Road championships and obtained 2 Bronze team medals at these championships. If we look at the youth coming through, we surely are going to add to the total in 2025.

For myself, the highlight of the year was the performance of our Green team at the Lite 2 Nite relay where we obtained the Silver medal with 167 laps. We missed the Gold by 4 laps, but we are going to rectify this in 2025. It must be mentioned again that we had a mixed relay team competing against a team with only male participants.

We are looking forward to more excellent performances from all our Road athletes in 2025.

Track & Field – Chairperson Tracey Olivier

We had a remarkably successful year on the Track and were rewarded by excellent performances and results. We as club can really be proud of the successes from our athletes in 2024.

On the AVT championships Nedbank athletes obtained 52 medals (31 Gold, 18 Silver and 3 Bronze).

Anje Holtzhausen represented Athletics Vaal Triangle at the U/16-U20 ASA championships and obtained the Gold Medal in the Hammer Throw.

Marli Dimond, Johanka de Villiers, Astrid Fourie and Chardone Smidt represented Athletics Vaal triangle at the Senior ASA championships and obtained the Silver medal in the 4x400 relay.

Franna van der Westhuizen represented Athletics Vaal Triangle at the Sub-Youth championships and obtained the Silver medal in the 1200m.

Two former members of our club represented their countries at the Olympic Games in Paris namely Marione Fourie (South Africa) and Ethan Olivier (New Zeeland).

Ethan Olivier competing for New Zeeland at the World U/20 championships and he won the Gold medal in the Triple Jump, to therefor be crowned as Junior World champion. Ethan is also the current record holder for New Zeeland in the Triple Jump.

We do have excellent Track and Field athletes in our club, and they are surely going to make us proud in 2025.

Masters Athletics – Chairperson Braam Botes

Our Masters Track and Field athletes performed excellent in 2025 and showed us that there are surely life and a future after the age of 35.

At the SAMA championships our athletes obtained 4 medals (2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze).

The schedule for the 2025 season will be forwarded to all master’s athletes when it is available. If you still have the talent and the wish to perform you are more than welcome to join the master’s category.

Managers, Coaches and Technical Officials

We want to congratulate members of our club who was chosen to be managers, coaches, and Technical Officials for Athletics Vaal Triangle Teams, but also for being appointed as Managers and Coaches for the South African teams and the team of New Zeeland.
