Nedbank Running Club Vaal Triangle clubhouse at Kollege Park Primary school (Glanville street) Vanderbilpark

Warm and hearty welcome to all Vanderbijlpark club members in 2024. Welcome to all new members who joined the club during the last two months. We want to wish all of you a great experience and that all of you achieve great performances with Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark. Go Green!!!

Please do not hesitate to contact anyone of the management team with any questions or suggestions you may have. Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark has a performance criterion where we acknowledge all performances of our Athletes, Coaches, Technical staff, and Management. Please note that it is the responsibility of each member of the club to provide us with your results for us to acknowledge that. We also have an Incentive Scheme where we award outstanding performances.

Normally Gerda Pretorius handle all club related enquiries as well as all running gear, but she will be away for a while and Salome Naude will handle this in her absence. The contact number for Salome is 083 635 8573. She will be available every Tuesday at the clubhouse from 17:00.

Registration 2024

Registration can be done in the following manner:

 Members can register at the clubhouse on Tuesdays from 17:00. Members can also register for 2024 using the following method:

 

  • ASA as well as the Nedbank Running Club’s registration forms must be completed.
  • You can obtain the necessary forms for your 2024 registration by open the following attached links:

  • If you have problems obtaining the forms via the links, you are more than welcome to request these forms from me. Just sent your email address to johanstr2@gmail.com and the forms will gladly be forwarded to you.
  • Please complete all forms and email it with your proof of payment to the email address of Johan Strydom johanstr2@gmail.com.
  • The 2024 fees are available on the Nedbank Running Club registration form.
  • Suggestion from my side is to download the requested forms and complete it before you go to the Club to register. That will save you valuable time.

Time Trials

From Tuesday the 21st of May the Time Trials started at 17:15 at the clubhouse during winter times as it became darker earlier as in summer. This is purely for safety reasons. We will inform members when the time change back to the original slot of 17:30.

We want to make a pledge to all our athletes to really try attending the Time Trials. We only have a small number of people who attend this. If you have any questions or issues regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Management team regarding that. We are open to any ideas or suggestions.

We have changed the route for the Time Trial, and we can promise that it is very safe route to follow and that is a route where you really can test your speed and endurance on a weekly basis.

Club Athlete of the month

The Club athlete for March ’24 was Anje Holtzhausen with her performance at the ASA Youth, Junior and u/23 T&F Championships. Thank you Anje you made us proud as always

 

The Club athlete’s for April ’24 was the Relay team consisting of Johanka de Villiers, Marli Dimond, Astrid Fourie and Chardone Smidt for their performance at the ASA Senior Track & Field Championships. Well done to our ladies with this

 

 

Cross Country – Chairperson Beaulah Valentin

The Cross-Country season started on the 4th of May 2024 and will end on the 7th of September 2024 with the ASA championships which will be held in the Vaal Triangle for the first time in the history.

Two leagues were completed and Nedbank Running Club AVT was well represented at these meetings. In the first league which was held in Heidelberg, Nedbank obtained nine first places, four second places and three third places.

The dates for the remaining leagues and championships is as follows:

 

  • 8 June 2024 at the George Thabo stadium and the hosting club will be Lekoa AC
  • 6 July 2024 at the Café du Cirque (Boswell Wilkie Circus) and the hosting club will be Meyerton AC
  • 20 July 2024 at venue TBA and the hosting club will be Future Champs AC
  • 3 August 2024 at Kollegepark Primary School and the hosting club will be Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark
  • 10 August 2024 will be the AVT championships and more information on the venue and hosting club will be communicated when available
  • 7 September 2024 will be the ASA championships and more information on the venue will be made available at later stage

As noted, our club will be responsible to host the league on 3 August 2024. Please come and support your club at the event so that it can be the same success as in 2023. We will publish more information when available.

Comrades ‘2024

 

The Comrades marathon is upon us and all our athletes who are going to participate are looking forward to it. All the hard work has been done now and all that remains is tapering and to get the mindset right and of course the most important to stay healthy and injury free for the remaining days.

 

The Pre-Comrades function was held on Friday the 24th of May and fourteen of the twenty-three participants were able to attend the function with family and friends and members of the management team.

Ian Morsehead of the Fordyce fusion was the guest speaker, and everyone enjoyed his wisdom and words of encouragement. It really was an enjoyable evening with nice “Boerie Rolls” and “Koeksisters”. A big thank you to Pierre, Gerda, Salome, Louis and Eurika for all the arrangements and preparations. Thank you to Beaulah as well who took all the photos during the event. Thank you to the management team members who did the cleaning afterwards.

Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark is proud that two of our ladies form part of Nick Bester's "Green Team" for the 2024 Comrades marathon namely Helene van Rooyen and Michelle Spies. Ladies we know you are going to make us proud and we will follow your performances with great interest!!

 

Track & Field – Chairperson Tracey Olivier

The 2024 ASA Track and Field championships took place from 21-23 March 2024 in Pretoria and as usual the Nedbank athletes represented Athletics Vaal Triangle had great performances.

  • Anje Holtzhausen won the Gold Medal in the Hammer. Well done Anje we are proud of you!
  • Nedbank athletes had four fourth places as well and just missed out on podium places

The 2024 ASA Track and Field championships took place from 18-21 April in Pietermaritzburg. Five junior athletes from Nedbank represented Athletics Vaal Triangle at this Championships.

  • Team AVT 4x400m Relay won the Silver medal, Johanka de Villiers, Marli Dimond, Astrid Fourie and Chardone Smidt (all Nedbank athletes). Ladies we are immensely proud of your achievement!

 

 

Masters Athletics – Chairperson Braam Botes

The SAMA Championships took place from 2-4 May 2024 in Potchefstroom. Results were not yet ready, but we will keep you informed on the achievements of our athletes in the next newsletter.
