In an unfortunate turn of events, Nedbank running club green dream team athlete Tadu Nare has announced that she will no longer be running the Soweto Marathon on Sunday due to illness.
One of the fastest female runners in the history of marathon running thanks to her 2:17:36 marathon personal best, Nare’s illness was disclosed by Nick Bester, National team manager of the Nedbank running club.
“We had an unfortunate call to say that Tadu would not be coming for Soweto as she fell sick but at the end of the day, the athlete’s health and well-being come first,” said Bester. “We still have some very strong ladies in the team who can pick up the pieces and will be looking for the win on Sunday.”
Although Nare had lost the Spar Grand Prix series title this year after winning the previous 3 editions, she was a runaway winner at the Mpumalanga Marathon last month which saw her earn a staggering R1 million for her effort.
The Soweto Marathon takes place at NASREC on Sunday 3 November 2024 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
