Nedbank running club’s Mosiako shooting for the stars

After a 4th sub-28:00 clocking over 10km thanks to his 3rd place 27:54 clocking at the Durban Run Your City 10km, Nedbank running club green dream team athlete Thabang Mosiako looks to broaden his horizon this year by aiming for another sub 60min clocking over the half marathon distance and perhaps even a marathon in the not-too-distant future.

A former national champion over both the 5000m on the track and the half marathon distance on the road, Mosiako had a great return to form last weekend with his 27:54 performance. “I had a great run and can shat I just enjoyed me race,” said Mosiako. “Everything went according to plan, and I am really happy that I recorded my 4th sub-28:00 time over 10km.”

With a 27:45 personal best for 10km which Mosiako achieved with a 6th place finish at the Urban Trail de Lille 10km in France, Mosiako had a great 2023 which saw him finish an amazing 6th at the World Half Marathon Championships in Latvia where he clocked a 59:52 and led the South African team home to a team competition medal.

“My plan for now is to record another sub 1 hour clocking over the half marathon but I am not that much in a rush to achieve it currently.” Coached by South African Olympic Games team marathon coach Michael Mbambani and basing himself in Gqeberha, Mosiako also hints that a marathon may also be on the cards in the not-so-distant future.

“I am going to continue with the 10km and half marathon distance this year with a goal of improving on the times but later on this year I am also looking to try and run my first marathon,” said Mosiako. With both a great system in place and a lot of speed in his legs, Mosiako could well go on to become one of the greats in South African distance running.

Being part of the Nedbank running club green team and assisting Mosiako in achieving these goals is made a lot easier thanks to the club’s generous sponsors. “I am so highly appreciative of the support that I get from the Nedbank running club,” said Mosiako. “Apart from the team itself, all of the sponsors are treating me like a champ, and I want to say thank you to all of them for the support to the team.”
