Nedbank running club paints Stellenbosch green

Last night saw the first league of Endurocad take place at the Coetzenberg stadium on a cool evening in Stellenbosch. Nedbank running club Cape Town members came out in full force, ready to dominate.

Kicking proceedings off, track specialist Kobie Griffiths took on the women’s 800m featuring 2 laps of the track. Positioning herself well, it came down to a three-way sprint to the line, with Griffiths just losing out on the top spot to finish 2nd in 2:13.54. 

The men’s 800m featured two races consisting of an A and B event. Starting off with the A race, there was a fast pace set out from the very beginning. Nedbank running club athlete Duran Faro ran a well-judged race to get a podium spot with his 3rd place finish in a quick 1:49.83. Teammate Oscar Bestenbier finished 6th in 1:53.54. 
In the men’s 800m B race, 17-year-old Kian Johnson was the standout as he took victory in a time of 1:57.76. Teammate Austin Bestenbier finished 5th in a time of 2:01.21. 

The longest event of the night was the men’s 3000m. this action-packed event saw 17 athletes toeing the line with 5 athletes in the colors of Nedbank running club. The pace was fast but there was no match for Anthony Timoteus who was victorious in a fast time of 8:10. Teammates Andre Afrika (8:20) and Star Shayamano (8:23) were 3rd and 4th respectively. 

"Personally, being able to run again in this time is a blessing,” said Timoteus. “I think every opportunity that we get to run is a must run situation. There is no time to relax and save yourself for the next round or run.”
