NEW George Lea Park TT route
Dear Club Member
We are excited to announce a new time trial route for George Lea time trials held every Wednesday. The previous route received some criticism specifically for the intersection of 9th Street and Olympia Avenue. Having said this planning a route in the suburbs around our club base is always a challenge with the increasing traffic in the Sandton area especially in the late afternoons. We believe the new route is safer however all runners are advised to be cautious at all intersections at all times.
The new route sees the return of the start inside the George Lea parking area exiting via the soccer field gates as before and finishing just in front of the main entrance to George Lea.
Details as follows:
1. START - Inside George Lea Park parking lot
2. Run along path and enter soccer fields just behind cricket nets, run along soccer field and exit via sand path into Olympia Avenue
3. Run up Olympia Avenue to stop street and turn left down Holt Street
4. Turn right into Hilda Road
5. Second right into 8th Street, Follow 8th all the way to Marie Avenue
6. Run along the sand path next to Marie Avenue and First right into 7th Street, Follow 7th all the way back to Hilda Road (T junction)
7. Turn right into Hilda and repeat the loop
8. At the T junction turn right into Hilda once again and first right into 8th Street
9. At the first stop street turn right down Olympia Avenue down the hill to the stop street where you turn right to the finish in front of the club (same finish as before)
Below a map of the new route / elevation profile.Maps and assistance will be available tomorrow night to ensure everyone runs the correct route.
Please also remember your reflective gear as light is fading early in the winter months, especially for those runners that complete the course in 30 minutes or more. Be alert at all times especially when crossing or turning at intersections.
