Nedbank running club hospitality area on offer at the Dischem Half Marathon this Sunday and the majority of the Nedbank Elite Green Dream Team will be present to open their running season.
The 2024 Dischem Half Marathon takes place this Sunday in the Bedfordview suburb of Johannesburg and is an event which has not only cemented itself as one of the best half marathons in the country but is also one of the best organized events on the calendar. This year’s event will see no less than 4 Comrades winners lining up in the colours of Nedbank running club, amongst a huge number of Nedbank running club athletes who will all be able to relax post-race at the Nedbank running club hospitality area.
The 2013 Comrades winner Claude Moshiywa together with 2019 winner Edward Motihbi and 2022 & 2023 winner Tete Dijana . Charne Bosman who won the Comrades in 2016 is back in the Nedbank Running Club colours in which she won Comrades. They all will don the green Nike Nedbank vests as they kick off their campaign for another successful Comrades and they will also be joined by a host of top Nedbank running club teammates. Out in front, speedsters Namakhoe Nkhasi, Joel Mmone and David Manja will be looking to set a hot pace as will the likes of Stella Marais, Galaletsang Mekgoe, Adele Broodryk and Patience Murowe do so in the women’s race.
“It is only the second week of 2024 yet the racing season is kicking off in full force and what better way to take part in the Dischem Half Marathon alongside some of our top Nedbank green dream team athletes and then share your war stories afterwards in our hospitality area,” said Nick Bester, National team manager of the Nedbank running club. “We will have catering on offer as well as some fantastic recovery products from a number of our sponsors and with Biogen being a major sponsor of this year’s race, we love to show them support as they have been amazing to all of us.”
Runners are still able to use their 2023 license numbers at the event which are still valid and entrance into the Nedbank hospitality area will be your official Nedbank Nike running attire consisting of the green top and green bottoms. Runners not wearing the correct attire will not be able to access the hospitality area. “We have seen a number of people either wearing black shorts or multi coloured pants with their Nedbank tops and we need to stress the importance that this is not official club kit and runners need to ensure that they are in the correct kit which is registered with Athletics South Africa and is World Athletics approved,” said Bester. Not only is the correct club kit compulsory, but wearing the wrong kit has seen some runners be disqualified around the country by race referees. Please ensure that you only compete in the official green Nedbank Nike running kits that are registered with your Province.
We did give extra Nedbank /Nike free kit to all Nedbank Running Clubs at the end of last year to make sure the respective Chairpersons and Club committee`s give it to needy runners that cannot afford to buy the complete set-vest and shorts or crop top and tights.
The Nedbank running club hospitality area will be a buzz of excitement after the event and runners will be able to snack on a variety of sandwiches, muffins, and fresh fruit. There will also be product on offer by Biogen, Future Life, THIRSTI Water and Bavaria. “We look forward to seeing all the Nedbank runners on Sunday at the event and to relax afterwards and even get some photos together with some of our Comrades stars,” said Bester.
