Nedbank Running Club Vaal Triangle clubhouse at Kollege Park Primary school (Glanville street) Vanderbilpark

Warm greetings to all Vanderbijlpark club members. A big and hearty welcome to all new members and we as management wish you all a winning experience with a winning club in the Vaal Triangle in 2023.

Gerda Pretorius will handle all club related enquiries as well as all running gear. Gerda’s contact number is 072 209 9906. She will be available at the clubhouse on Tuesday’s from 17:00.

Registration 2023  

Registration can be done in the following manner:

 Members can register at the clubhouse on Tuesdays from 17:00 or they can register using the process set out below.

• ASA as well as the Nedbank Running Club’s registration forms have to be completed.
• You can obtain the necessary forms for your 2023 registration by open the following attached links:
• If you have problems obtaining the forms via the links, you are more than welcome to request these forms from me. Just sent your email address to johanstr2@gmail.com and the forms will gladly be forwarded to you.
• Please complete all forms and email it with your proof of payment to the email address of Pierre Pretorius pierre@megasurfwifi.co.za. Please send me your Proof of Payment to my email address, johanstr2@gmail.com, as well. I’m responsible for the finances of the Club and will need it for reconciliation purposes.
• The 2023 fees is available on the Nedbank Running Club registration form.
• Suggestion from my side is to download the requested forms and complete it before you go to the Club to register. That will save you valuable time.
• ASA numbers for 2023 are available now and can be collected at the clubhouse on Tuesdays from 17:00.
• Payment for license and membership fees can be done directly in the following Nedbank account:

Club Athlete of the month – February & March ‘23

Ethan Olivier was nominated by management as Club Athlete for February and March ’23 as a result of his outstanding performances in competitions for Triple Jump.

Time Trials

The winner for February ’23 was Paulus Mofokeng. Congratulations to you. Please note that this was the last month of the competition.

Starting time for our weekly time trials will be on Tuesday’s at 17:15 from the Clubhouse. This new time will be during the winter months when it become dark earlier during these months and this change is for safety reasons.

Cross Country

The new season starts on Saturday the 6^th of May 2023 at Driehoek High school and events will start at 10:00. The league is hosted by Hoekies AC.

Please remember if you are a fully paid Nedbank member, you can get your sticker for free from Beaulah Valentin. Remember to write your name and license number at the entry table. Nedbank Running Club will pay the entry fees of all leagues and the AVT championships to Athletics Vaal Triangle. All you have to do is to pitch in your lovely Nedbank attire with your 2023 ASA license and to perform as Nedbank athletes normally do.

Our Club will host the league which will be held on the 5^th of August 2023 at Kollegepark. We will need help from our members to make this a huge success.

Please note that the venue for the league on the 6th of May '23 changed to Driehoek High School and the date for the 2nd league changed to the 27th of May '23

Road Running

The results for the ASA Marathon Championships on the 12^th of March 2023 which was held in Durban were as follows:

• Tsietsi Mokoena won the silver medal in the 50-59 category group with an excellent time of 2hrs 47 minutes. He was also part of the AVT 40-49 category who won the bronze medal in the team price.
• 
• Sampie Mokgatla was part of the 40-49 category who won the bronze medal in the team price with the excellent time of 2hrs and 49 minutes.
• 

Congratulations to both of you with your excellent performances. You made us proud as always.

Congratulations to Louise Britz who was the 1^st woman on the Sedibeng marathon in the 10km race in the 50-59 category.

The remaining ASA Road Championships for 2023

• ASA Half Marathon Championships that will take place on the 3^rd of June 2023 in Gqeberha.

• ASA 10km Championships that will take place on the 4^th of November 2023 in Mbombela.

Comrades marathon - 2023

The club will have the following garments available for athletes running Comrades '23.

• Short Sleave T-shirts @ R150 

• Long Sleave Top @ R200

The last day for ordering and payment is the 6th of May '23.

Track & Field

• During the recent ASA u/16-u/20 Championships which was held in Pietermaritzburg from the 23^rd to the 25^th of March 2023, AVT ended in 5^th position with 11 medals obtained during the championships. Of these 11 medals, 4 medals came from our Nedbank athletes and all 4 medals were Gold medals. A team of 48 athletes represented AVT at these championships of which the following 15 athletes were from Nedbank Running Club in Vanderbijlpark namely:

Johanke de Villiers joined Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark after the championships and she won the silver medal in the 400m at these championships.

• During the ASA Senior championships which was held in Potchefstroom from the 29^th of March to the 1^st of April 2023, a total of 23 athletes represented AVT and of these 23, 10 were from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark namely:

Six medals were won by AVT of which 3 were won by Nedbank athletes. The medal winners were:

Chris van Niekerk – Silver medal in the Shotput and Bronze medal in Discus

Ethan Olivier – Bronze medal in the Triple Jump

• The African Championships (CAA) u/18-u/20 took place from the 29^th of April till the 3^rd of May 2023 in Lusaka, Zambia and 4 AVT athletes were chosen to represent ASA at these championships. From these 4 athletes 3 were from Nedbank Running Club namely?
• Marli Dimond 800m - finished 6th
• Chardone Smidt 100m - (finished 5th) & Relay won Silver
• Anje Holtzhausen Hammer Throw - Gold medal

Sabata Kumalo was chosen by ASA to be the Team Manager.

Masters Athletics 2023

Dates and venues for Master events

• SA Masters Championships Cape Town, Green point 4-6 May 2023
• AFS Throws & Jumps Bloemfontein 5 August 2023
• Africa Masters Championships Cape Town, Green Point stadium 23-25  Nov 2023
• SWD Masters Championship  Oudtshoorn, De Jager stadium 20-21 Oct 2023
• AFS Masters Championships Bloemfontein 28 Oct 2023
• SA Masters Championships Bloemfontein 2024
• World Masters Athletics Marathon World Championship 21 Oct 2024

These dates were confirmed by the provinces, but it is subject to change. Athletes to make sure that the dates are correct before making any arrangements for travelling and accommodation etc.

Six athletes from AVT qualified for the SAMA Championships in Cape Town from the 4^th to the 6^th of May 2023 at Greenpoint stadium in Cape Town. Of these 6 athletes, 4 are from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark namely:

1. Hannes Nel
2. Le Roux van Tonder
3. Liezl Bezuidenhout
4. Braam Botes

Unfortunately only Liezl and Braam will participate at this SAMA Championships and we are eagerly awaiting the results.

During a recent meeting 5 athletes from AVT participated of which 4 were from Nedbank and out of the 18 medals won by them, 15 came from our Nedbank athletes namely:

1. Liezl Bezuidenhout - 2 Gold Medals
2. Louise Britz - 2 Gold medals
3. Braam Botes - 2 Gold and 2 Bronze medals
4. Hannes Nel - 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals
