Nedbank Running Club Vaal Triangle clubhouse at Kollege Park Primary school (Glanville street) Vanderbilpark

Warm greetings to all of our Vanderbijlpark club members. Another year has flown past but at least we had a more “normal” year than the previous years when Covid-19 had a big impact on our sport.

Thank you to all our loyal members during the year and we are looking forward to welcome all of you back in 2023. We were privileged to welcome a number of new members during 2022 and we are certain that you will join our Club again for a winning experience with a winning club in the Vaal Triangle in 2023. Please encourage your family and friends to join us as well.

Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark was once again the biggest Club in the Vaal Triangle for 2022 regarding the number of members and it is quite an achievement if we take in consideration that there are two big open school clubs in the Province.

Gerda Pretorius will handle all club related enquiries as well as all running gear. Gerda’s contact number is 072 209 9906. She will be available at the clubhouse on Tuesday’s from 17:00. Please note that the clubhouse is now closed and will only open again on Tuesday the 10^th of January 2023 from 17:00

Registration 2023  

Registration can be done in the following manner:

 Members can register at the clubhouse from Tuesday the 10^th of January 2023 from 17:00 or they can register using the process set out below.

• ASA as well as the Nedbank Running Club’s registration forms have to be completed.
• You can obtain the necessary forms for your 2023 registration by open the following attached links:

• If you have problems obtaining the forms via the links, you are more than welcome to request these forms from me. Just sent your email address to johanstr2@gmail.com and the forms will gladly be forwarded to you.
• Please complete all forms and email it with your proof of payment to the email address of Pierre Pretorius pierre@megasurfwifi.co.za. Please send me your Proof of Payment to my email address, johanstr2@gmail.com, as well. I’m responsible for the finances of the Club and will need it for reconciliation purposes.
• The 2023 fees is available on the Nedbank Running Club registration form.
• Suggestion from my side is to download the requested forms and complete it before you go to the Club to register. That will save you valuable time.
• ASA numbers have to be collected at the clubhouse on Tuesdays from 17:00, when they are available. We will let our members know when they can pick up the 2023 licenses.
• Payment for license and membership fees can be done directly in the following Nedbank account:

Time Trials

Please note the Time trials will only start again at the clubhouse from Tuesday the 10^th of January 2023 @ 17:30.

Rules for winning the monthly price:

• Competition is open to only Nedbank club members
• Available distances you can choose from is  2,4,6 or 8 kilometers
• Athletes have to compete in at least three (3) time trials during the specific month to be eligible for the price
• The winner of the price will be determined by a lucky draw if there are more than one athlete who have completed the three (3) time trials
• The winner will be decided on the last time trial for the month. The monthly winner will be rewarded with a gift voucher. Photo of the winner with his/her price and in Nedbank colors will be taken and published in the next edition of the monthly Nedbank Vanderbijlpark newsletter

OVERVIEW OF THE 2022 SEASON

QGM Vaal Triangle – 22 January ‘22

We started the year with the QGM of AVT where the new Board was elected and the following Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark serves currently on the Board

1. Sabata Kumalo – President of the Board. He is also a elected member for Athletics South Africa
2. Beaulah Valentin – Chairperson Cross Country
3. Tracey Olivier – Chairperson Track & Field. She is also a elected member for Athletics South Africa
4. Braam Botes – Masters Athletics
5. Pierre Pretorius – Additional member
6. Joggie van der Sandt – Member of the Road Commission
7. Wikus Olivier – Additional member Track & Field
8. Shaun Powell – Vice Chairperson Track & Field
9. Lawrence Oosthuizen – Additional member Track & Field
10. Joseph Dzhuva – Additional member Athletes commission

ASA u/16-u/20 Champs in Potchefstroom – 31 March to 2 April ‘22

28 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark represented AVT at these championships. The management team consisted of 4 members from our club. The Nedbank athletes obtained 9 medals (2 Gold, 1 Silver and 6 Bronze medals).

ASA Senior Track & Field Champs in Cape Town – 21-23 April ‘22

6 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark represented AVT at these championships. The management team consisted of 2 members from our club. The Nedbank athletes obtained 1 silver medal in the Tripple Jump by Ethan Olivier.

ASA Relays and Combined Champs in Sasolburg – 29-30 April ‘22

20 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark represented AVT at these championships in the Relays, and 2 athletes in the Combined events. The management team consisted of 4 members from our club. The Nedbank athletes obtained 6 medals (2 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze) in the Relays and 1 Bronze medal in the Combined events.

ASA 42.2km Championships in Durban – 8 May ‘22

2 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark represented  AVT at these championships. 1 Team Bronze medal and 1 age category Bronze medal were obtained by these 2 athletes.

ASA 21.1km Championships in Gqeberha – 4 June ‘22

2 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark represented  AVT at these championships. 1 Bronze medal was obtained in the age group 50-59 and 1 Silver medal for the age category 50-54.

CAA African Champs in Mauritius 8-12 June ‘22

Marli Dimond was elected to represent South Africa at these championships.

World Athletics u20 Champs in Cali Colombia 1-6 August ‘22

2 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark represented their countries at these championships. Marli Dimond represented South Africa in the 800m where she came 6^th in her heat. Ethan Olivier represented New Zealand where he broke the national record and obtained 4^th place in the Tripple Jump.

ASA 10km champs in Pretoria – 13 August ‘22

4 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark represented AVT at these championships and obtained the Bronze medal for the ladies team event.

AVT Cross Country champs in Vanderbijlpark – 20 August ‘22

15 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark participated in these championships and obtained 11 medals (4 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze).

ASA Cross Country champs in Rustenburg – 17 September ‘22

15 Athletes from Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark  represented AVT at these championships and 1 Bronze medal was obtained in the ladies team.

Annual Awards Function – 2 November ‘22

The Annual Awards Function was held on the 2^nd of November ’22 where athletes, officials and coaches were acknowledged with merit certificates, medals and honorary colours.

For the first time in the history of the club, Nedbank management decided to acknowledge athlete performances by means of a financial incentive.

A total of 7 athletes were awarded with free membership for 2023.

53 Members received acknowledgement on the night and herewith the  summary of the awards:

• Certificate of Merit – 35
• Certificate of Merit & Medal – 76
• Honorary Colours – 28

The well deserved Sports Person of the year went to Ethan Olivier for his achievements in 2022. Once again well done to him!!

The above overview just proofed again that the Nedbank Running Club in Vanderbijlpark is a Club to be proud of and that you can wear your green with pride!!
