Message from Nedbank

Our sponsorship of the Nedbank Running Club has reaped wonderful rewards over the past few years with many of our athletes displaying phenomenal consistent performances throughout this partnership. This is why Nedbank did not hesitate to extend its backing for a further three years as we seek to make the Nedbank Running Club one of the most admired in the country.

Earlier this year, we had our strategy session with the running club and Team Leader Nick Bester assured us that all our athletes were in top condition for their respective races and commitments in 2017. This gives us great confidence that the desired results will be achieved at this year’s Comrades Marathon where the bar has been raised and a high standard has been set following a number of spectacular and dominant performances by our athletes. Last year Charne Bosman was the Queen of Comrades showing great determination and courage to cross the finish line in first position. We know that Charne has worked very hard this year as she looks to build on that exceptional 2016 showing.  As Nedbank we have no doubt that this year’s Comrades Marathon will also live up to expectations as all the runners have been fully equipped with all they need to prosper. This year’s Comrades Marathon coincides with the bank’s new brand essence of being money experts who do good and we believe that by investing in your passion which is running, shows our commitment to be a bank for all.

On behalf of Nedbank, I would like to wish everyone a fantastic day of running and I sincerely hope that you go on to achieve your goals. We are very excited and expect to see the familiar Green Dream Team runners at the front of the 2017 Comrades Marathon on Sunday but also want to hold thumbs for the reamainder of the close to 1000 Nedbank Runners that will be running as well.

Good luck to you all and may you run your best race ever this year from Durban to Pietermaritzburg and if you are a novice remember it hurts more to STOP!!

We will once again have a hospitality marquee for all Nedbank Running Club members at the new finish line at the Scottsville Race track in Pietermaritzburg!

The Marquee will be situated just after the runners exit the subway underneath the race track next to the big TV screen and close to the first  main pavilion-Look out for the Nedbank gazebos and feather flags.Click here to see the stadium map-Nedbank Running Club.

The above will be managed by Nedbank staff wearing a Nedbank  shirt. You will be met at the exit of the finishing tunnels by a Nedbank representative who will hand you a VIP pouch comprising of 1 x food voucher and 2 drinks vouchers. These vouchers can be exchanged for a meal and 2 drinks at the Nedbank marquee.There will be a variety of cold drinks,ciders,beers and coffee and tea on offer.

There will be a Future Life smoothie corner ,Biogen energy bars and recovery drinks.There will also be masseuse therapists to see if they can help to ease some pain for your aching body with Arnica Ice.

Please remember space is limited and no family members can be accommodated with meals or drinks.We will however try to let them in with you. No family members can be accommodated in the Nedbank marquee prior to your arrival at the finish in Durban and please remember your entry to the tent is guaranteed only if you wear your official Nedbank Running kit and 2017 Comrades race number.

The Nedbank Green Dream Team will be flying the Green flag at the front of the race.

We are expecting to see South Africa’s Claude Moshiywa, Simpiwe Ndelela, Eric Ngubane  and Ludwick Mamabola at the front of the South African challenge in the men’s race. They will be supported by fellow top National Nedbank athletes and I am sure we will see new faces up there in the top 10.

Keep an eye open for Two Oceans winner Mike Fokoroni and our strong International challenge in the likes of Steve Way ,Patrick Reagan and Vladimer Shatrov.

In the woman's race we are looking forward to the performances of South African stalward and defending Champion Charne Bosman supported by top Kwa Zulu Natal athlete Fikile Mbutuma There are also a host of new talented International athletes that will be representing the Nedbank Green Dream Team in the likes of 2016 World 100km champion Camille Herron and 7 times Davos trailrace winner Jasmin Nunige and Sarah Bard who placed 4^th in last years race.
