COMRADES 2015 success!

This year's Comrades marathon was dominated by the ladies with both first and second lady, Caroline Wostmann and Charne Bosman, being South African Nedbank runners. Caroline finished 25th overall in an outstanding time of 6:12:22, which is an average of 4:15 min/km! Her final 8km's were the fastest 8km's run by any participant in this year's race! Caroline first ran the Comrades marathon in 2011, finishing in a time of 9:16 which shows that hard work and perseverance really does pay off! Well done Caroline, you are an inspiration to us all!

Once again, the Nedbank Green Mile was a huge success, providing entertainment to runners and spectators alike. NRCCG also supplied two very well stocked seconding tables along the route where we were able to provide our members with a selection of snacks, drinks and emergency blister, sunburn and cramping remedies!

Overall, there were 652 Nedbank running club athletes who successfully finished this year’s Comrades marathon with 160 of those coming from our Central Gauteng club. On behalf of the NRCCG committee, I would like to congratulate each of those who ran and completed this year's race.

Anyone who wishes to run Comrades in the future and would like advice on training programs, qualifying and seeding or other race-related information should please contact us on info@nedbankrunningclubcg.co.za.

As we move into the second half of the year, many athletes will be recovering post Comrades and may prefer to stay indoors during the winter months. We encourage all runners to keep up the training and be fit and ready for the half marathon season which kicks off the ever popular Old Eds, Wits and Wanderers half marathons during the course of August. For those who prefer the shorter distances, the Northgate 10km takes place on the 28th June and the Pirates 10km on 5th July.

We would like to remind all members to please wear your reflective gear during the winter running season. We wish to prevent any unnecessary casualties due to poor visibility on the roads. On the note of safety, caution to all who wish to run with iPods, your first warning of approaching danger is often heard before seen!

A big thank you to Nedbank for the sponsored reflective bibs being used at our Wednesday evening time trial!

Happy running!

Congratulations!

A very hearty congratulations to our member of the month, Liz Ruickbie.

After an outstanding last athletics season, including 6 cross country wins and setting new South African records in both the 5000 and 10000 metre track categories, Liz was awarded the very prestigious title of SAMA athlete of the year. SAMA awards work on a points system and last season produced 8 nominees nationally. Liz won the award in a unanimous vote by the SAMA committee.

Other successes that Liz achieved during the season include winning her age category in the 2014 Gauteng marathon, RAC Tough One, Kaapsehoop half marathon, Vaal half marathon and Pirates 10km races.

Well done Liz, we are very proud of you and wish you much success in your future running career!
