Message from the Chairperson:

March was a very eventful month for our club. Starting with Deloitte marathon, then we also had our gazebo up at the Sunrise Monster race, and what a lovely race it was. Very well organised by Harlequins club and such an awesome vibe. Next was “Om Die Dam”. This is the 3rd biggest race in the country and an epic task to organise the gazebo but thanks to Derik from the committee we managed to provide after race refreshments to our more than 260 nedbank club members taking part in the half and ultra marathon, that’s not even counting the 10km run. It was a tough race and a long day but a great vibe.

Looking forward April holds its own challenges for our runners, the first and by far the biggest being 2 oceans marathon. By the time you get this newsletter the race will be over. We hope for all the Nedbank runners who took part in either the 21km or the 56km that it went superbly, and if not…chin up and better luck next time. At the very least you got to enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery our country has to offer.

The Committee hopes to see you all at our monthly braai which is normally on the first Thurs of each month but because of 2Oceans it was moved to Thurs 9th April. We have a wonderful club house at our disposal and the monthly braais are really a great opportunity to meet other runners and share stories and advice, not to mention spot prizes to be won. Hope to see you there!

Kind Regards
Ursula

Member of the Month
Member of the Month:

CARA TERBLANCHE has been selected as the February 2015 Nedbank Gauteng North member of the month.
Congratulations Cara!

About Cara and running:

When did you start running ?
I started running about 3 years ago - VERY social. After Varsity (grootmens-lewe) my sporting habits took a bit of a turn, and the Running Club was the light in the end of the tunnel (10 years later!)

Why are you running and what got you interested in running?
Being active is an essential part of my well-being - physically and mentally...and keeping me out of trouble:) The people at the club, as well as the fact that I feel some sense of achievement after every run (no matter how short or how long) is what keeps me coming back.

How do you stay motivated when you don’t want to run?

I have the best running partners in the world...so when I don't feel motivated, there is always someone behind or next to me with encouraging words - even if the only  encouragement is the ice cold refreshments at our lovely clubhouse.

Best Run ever?
I absolutely loved my first 21 - Kaapsche Hoop. First weekend away with the club, my first 21 finish (I actually finished!) and the astonishing views and surrounds of the area all attributed to my favorite run up to date.

Three words that describe my running?
Een-voet-voor-die-ander (1 word:))

My go-to running outfit is?
First Ascent 3/4 pants (the one in which the holes are not TOTALLY visible), and the most comfortable shirt I can find.

Quirky habit while running?
Hmm...shouting "SPORT" (hahaha) when I feel the need for encouragement - this is just to remind myself that pain and suffering is part of this running thing - I have to go through it in order to experience exact opposite afterwards.

Morning, midday or evening?

Evening

Potential Running goal for 2015?
It was to run the 2 Oceans Ultra - before I tore a muscle in my thigh. Now, I am redirecting to doing three marathons before December.

Do you train alone or do you have a running partner?
Running buddies!

Favourite Road Running Race?
Kaapsche Hoop

Favourite distance to run?
I just got to the point of falling in love with 21km...after a month of no running and rehab, it will most probably be a 10km.

What do you eat before a race?

Futerlife

Any lessons that running has tought you?
Something is always better than nothing.

When did you join the Nedbank Pta Running Club?
2 years ago...a bit longer if you count me attending functions but not having an actual running license:)

THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS CARA!

Member of the month for March 2015:

Motivational Quote:

REMEMBER THE FEELING
YOU GET FROM A GOOD RUN

YOU GET FROM SITTING AROUND
WISHING YOU WERE RUNNING
