After the successful first edition of the Nedbank running club social media race and a new race currently underway, The Nedbank running club green dream team WhatsApp were in for another fun and exciting spur of the moment competition.
“Post a picture of your resting heart rate and the lowest one’s will win a prize,” posted Nedbank running club National team manager in the green dram team’s WhatsApp group.
Suddenly images came streaming in of photos of running watches bearing their resting heart rates. “I don’t think this is a competition I will be able to win with my 2 children in the house,” laughed Irvette Van Zyl, joint winner of the first Nedbank running club social media race.
According to the Guinness book of World records, the World record for lowest recorded resting heart rate belongs to 45-year-old fitness fanatic Martin Brady from Guernsey. His record of 27 beats per minute took the title from five time Tour De France winner Miguel Indurain whose resting heart rate was recorded as 28 beats per minute.
Taking the win for Nedbank running club was Malusi Dlomo who’s resting heart rate was 35 BPM, followed by Siyabonga Sakwe with 38 BPM and first lady Cobie Smith who finished 3rd with 43 BPM. It must also be noted that Dlomo has been voted as fittest soldier in South Africa for the past 3 years where he is employed in the South African Air Force.
Each athlete in the top 3 will receive a pair of Nike running shoes from this competition. The Nedbank running club is appreciative of the support they receive from head sponsor Nedbank as well as sponsors Nike, Futurelife, Biogen and Bavaria.
