Ultra-season starts as Nedbank running club athletes sharpen up
March 11, 2020
With the calendar now rolling into March, so starts the season of ultra-running with big events such as the upcoming Om Die Dam 50km taking place. With this, many Nedbank running club athletes have been sharpening up for what makes the next 3 months, ultra-season in South Africa.

With many athletes now opting to enter races to do their long runs, there have been some fine showings from Nedbank running club athletes who have podiumed whilst just taking the race as a training run.

Taking a break from a successful Lesotho High Altitude training camp at AfriSki, Deanne Horn won the Surrender Hill Marathon in Clarens in prep for Two Oceans next month.

Fikile Mbuthuma took victory in the Buffalo Marathon, securing her A batch Comrades qualifier in 2:58:04. “I felt really great in this race and my aim was to be comfortable yet still go under 3 hours,” Mbuthuma said. “It was a great course that also had a lot of down so this was perfect in preparing for Comrades this year as it is the down run.” Mbuthuma is a Comrades gold medallist from the down run and will be looking at adding another to her collection this year.
