Two Nedbank running club athletes in team South Africa announcement
January 29, 2020
Yesterday Athletics South Africa announced their team that will represent South Africa in the World Half Marathon Championships which will be held in Poland on 29 March 2020.

Announced amongst the team were two athletes from the Nedbank running club. In the men’s team, Joel Mmone will don the South African colors and in the ladies’ race, Gerda Steyn will wear the green and gold. For an ultra-distance runner, Steyn is making history representing South Africa in the much shorter distance of the half marathon.

Boasting a personal best time of 61:22 over the half marathon, Mmone will be looking for a new personal best in which could help South Africa towards a team medal, such is the caliber of the team.

This will be the first time Mmone will represent South Africa on the roads, after 3 previous national duties in the World Cross Country championships to his name.

Steyn will be donning the green and gold for the first time in her career. After turning down national team selection back in 2018 due to prior commitments, Steyn will use this event as a stepping stone to the Olympic Games later this year where she will compete in the marathon.

The Nedbank running club congratulate our two athletes on their selection to represent the Country and wish them all the best with their preparation
