Nedbank running club paints the streets of Benoni green
January 28, 2020
The annual Johnson Crane Marathon with it’s accompanying 10km and half marathon took place over the weekend and it was a dominant performance by the Nedbank running club who took overall victory in all 3 races.

In the main marathon, it was a double victory as Eliud Biwott crossed the line victorious in 2:21:12 with teammate Cobie Smith taking victory in the women’s race in 2:59:45. David Manja took victory in the half marathon, a close 19 seconds ahead of teammate Xolisa Tylai in 1:07:29. Phillimon Mathiba stepped down in distance after his 2:13 marathon late last year and took victory in the 10km, crossing the line in 31:08.

On the international front, the always smiling Gerda Steyn took victory in the Dubai 10km in a new personal best of 32:24. “Im so happy with my performance today and also the fact that I won this race for the 3rd time in a row,” said a very happy Steyn. “The training is gearing up nicely and it definitely helps having the best coach in the World.” The coach Steyn refers to is none other than Nedbank running club National manager Nick Bester. A former Comrades winner himself, Bester has transformed Steyn’s running over the last 4 years which has seen her not only smash last years Comrades up run record, but also qualify for this years Olympic Games.
