Johannes leads the Nedbank Running Club at Spar Ladies 10km
August 7, 2019
Star Nedbank green dream team athlete Helalia Johannes from Namibia showed yet again how World class she is as she led home 4 other Nedbank ladies into the top 10 at the Spar Ladies 10km in Pretoria and broke yet another record.

Literally leading from start to finish, the slim Johannes had no challenge, barely a week after her 2nd place finish in the World class Bogota Half Marathon. Crossing the line in 32:39, Johannes smashed the course record and it was an amazing time on its own given the altitude. Behind her, Nedbank teammates Teshome Nare and Rutendo Nyahora battled it out to close the podium and make it a clean sweep for the Nedbank green dream team with Nare getting the better of Nyahora to finish 2nd in 34:13.

“I’m very happy with my run today and also to extend my lead on the Spar Grand Prix table,” said a softly spoken Johannes after the race. “My form is good, and I feel strong so I’m looking to continue this in the season.” Johannes will be a big name to watch in the upcoming World Championships which will be held in Doha where she will take part in the marathon.

Over in Cape Town, Tanith Maxwell continues to show form on her return from injury earlier this year taking victory in the Curro Half Marathon in 1:24:41, on her build up to the World 50km championships next month
