NRC JUNIORS OUTSHINE SENIOR COMPETITORS
June 20, 2018
Whilst it is still relatively quiet on the racing front countrywide, Junior athletes from the Nedbank Running Club (NRC) made sure they impress by not only winning their respective age categories but also winning some races outright.

Despite cold weather Junior and Senior athletes from the Nedbank Soweto Development squad participated in large numbers at the Kagiso Youth Day Race held in Kagiso. It was especially the Juniors who shined, with Kutlwisiso Sidinile winning the Junior as well as Open category in a speedy 31:22. His female teammate Welma Nkuna did the same when she broke the tape as first female Junior and Open female in a time of 42:07.

Another Junior and up and coming star Anele Voorman performed well at the 10km Youth Run in Port Elizabeth where he won his category in 36:02 while Vicky Oelofse did it for the Junior girls in 43:10.

It was a good day out at the Total Day Youth 10km in Courtenay, SWD, with 22 podium positions! All three Open Podium positions went to NRC men while the Juniors, Masters and Walkers took first and second positions. The women did especially well and placed in each and every age category; in most cases the ladies took 1st and 2nd positions. There was no hiding the Green Dream Team on the podium that day!

RESULTS

QAPH'E QOLO SAVE THE RHINO HALF MARATHON & 10 KM, MTUBATHUBA, 17 JUNE

Note: The times in this half marathon look very fast, but the Race Time Bias (RTB) formula devised by Ken Young of The Analytical Distance Runner, which compares runners’ times in a race with what one could expect them-run based on their most recent performances, returns a figure of -4.74 sec/km (six time comparisons) -- just within the allowable limit of -5 sec/km. The performances therefore seem to be OK, but suspicion remains about the accuracy of the course. The runners shown as the first master and first grandmaster are both still seniors, so these results are omitted here. -- Ed.
